Betty de Asis, FANB District Representative in Moncton and surrounding areas, welcomed FANB Executive Officers last Sunday, October 28 in a social gathering in the city of Moncton.
The event was initially planned as a celebration on the arrival of a newborn baby. However, Betty, as everyone calls her, has decided to take the opportunity to introduce the number of Filipinos living in Moncton to the Association and vice versa.
Two EXCO officers, Josie Livingstone and Luisa Misa-Toyer, began the meeting by thanking everyone for the chance to speak with them. They discussed the merits of having an Official Filipino Association and how it builds a sense of community while living in New Brunswick. They also introduced another EXCO officer, Sam Benigno.
Membership is encouraged with the emphasis on active participation. There was a general consensus that everyone should take a Membership Form. A few has decided to fill them out and pay their membership fees right away.
Two representatives, Marisel Benigno and Vickie Farkas, from the Nomination and Election Committee were present on this event. One of them spoke briefly on the current status of the elected body. There was a mutual agreement with Betty de Asis regarding active member’s participation from Moncton in the upcoming election on Saturday, November 3, for Vice-President and three Trustees in Fredericton.
People who have access to the internet were excited about the official FANB website, especially when presented with the prospect of contributing articles to the newsletter. There was an inquiry in regards to how others who do not have internet access can learn more about FANB. Misa-Toyer, also the website designer, has indicated that she will present this question to the Board Members on the next meeting.
Everyone is looking forward to making a special trip and getting involved with the upcoming Christmas activity to be held Saturday, December 8, at Saint Dunstan’s Catholic Church in downtown Fredericton.
